Niemodlin - Zamek Niemodlin

A Slavic settlement was first mentioned as Nemodlin in 1224. Four years later the Opole Duke Casimir I awarded this village to his palatine Clemens and his brother. They used the village to equip a Benedictine monastery near Cracow. Kazimir's son Vladislaus I reacquired the village of Nemodlin in 1260, presumably to establish a German-law town. The German place name Falkenberg is documented for the first time in the year 1290.

Around 1313, Duke Bolko II of Falkenberg had a stone castle built to replace an older wooden one. In the following centuries, the castle was destroyed several times. In the 15th century, it was destroyed by the Hussites, in 1552 by fire, and in 1643 during the Thirty Years' War.

In the 16th and 17th centuries, the castle was remodeled in the Renaissance style. In the 18th century, the castle was again rebuilt in the Baroque style.

After WWII, several public institutions were housed in the castle, including a secondary school. Due to a lack of renovation work, the building gradually deteriorated. In 1990 the castle was bought by a private investor.

In 2015 the castle passed into the hands of a new owner, but it still looks very crumbly. Unfortunately, the castle was closed.
