Arsac-en-Velay - Château de Bouzols

A fortified stronghold existed here already within the 11th century, this stronghold was converted into a massive castle that was besieged for one year (1399 - 1400) and was partially destroyed.

It was rebuilt and from 1621 the new owners (House of Montagu) transformed it into a lordly residence. After the Revolution the castle fell into ruins and changed hands again. The rebuilding and reconstruction started end of the 19th century - and is still ongoing.
