Agris - Saint-Caprais

Saint-Caprais, the parish church in Agris, dates from the 12th century. It was once dependend on the priory of Saint-Florent in near La Rochefoucauld.

In 1981 a masterpiece of Celtic art, the "Casque d'Agris" ("Agris Helmet"), was found in a cave here. The ceremonial helmet, dated to the 4th century BC is meanwhile on display in the Musée d'Angoulême.
