Pavia - Duomo di Pavia

Evening sun in Pavia. The "Duomo di Pavia" has a huge dome. The construction of the cathedral started in 1488, replacing a Romanesque
cathedral. This was a construction side for more than four centuries. The dome was completed in 1885, but partially collapsed that same year.
Neighbouring already the older, Romanesque church stood the "Torre Civica", an 11th century tower, that was 72 metres high. This tower collapsed in March 1989. The collapse killed four people - and started a discussion about the safety of the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
