The nave would never have had fixed seating (pews) it was more like a meeting hall with prayers taking place in side chapels, even today a ceremonial procession is led by a staff bearer who would have used it to clear a path through the people

Lady Godiva is supposed to have risen naked through the streets of Coventry as a protest of the taxes levied on the poor people by her husband, the citizens had be ordered to stay in the houses with the shutters closed one man could not resist a sneaky look hence the expression 'A Peeping Tom'
