The red squirrel left some more evidence of his or her afternoon meal ...
some hazel nut shell fragments and the skins from a few peanuts [groundnuts]. There were also a few bits from sunflower seed cases when the area was closely examined.
The pine cone was untouched, although a few were found to have been stripped back to their core and others indicated that the woodpecker[s] have been after the seeds.
We pick up the hard shells as a means to count of where & how many nuts are eaten on visits, and as an attempt to hide feeding evidence from potential predators.

StoneRoad2013 club has replied to Bee OrchidYes, It is great to see them again after many years absence.
As well as providing regular food, there's now a nest / shelter box up in the trees.
Hopefully s/he will get somewhat habituated to us.
