TiG - lorry drivers leaving because ...

Ver, very interesting - list of reasons why HGV drivers are leaving haulage companies in the UK. A small number of responses given the huge size of the reported shortage [September 2021].

How about the very simple one.. It's a crap job!!
HGV class 1 are horrible things to drive, when ever you turn a corner all you see in the mirrors is the side of the trailer, or sky.
You get moaned at for arriving early, or unloading refused if you are late.
When your hours are up you must kip in the cab, but remain alert for low life nicking your cargo or fuel..
And driving up the motorway at a steady 56MPH is plain boring!!
Best Wishes, a nice week ahead, and stay safe!!
Peter
StoneRoad2013 club has replied to Peter_Private_Box clubI know a number of people in the haulage industry, but then, they specialise in moving "unusual" loads so, apart from the speed limit don't have such a boring time. But have a lot more "fun" in getting in and out of less easy to access places. [think the heavy load - like steam locomotives - shifters that sometimes pop-up on the TV.
tbh, I think the motorway speed limits are too low.
As for boring, the unit next to my workshop used to have HGVs delivering and collecting chipboard sheets for the application of a protective film, to & from the production plant about half an hour away. Some of the waggons were on that duty all day ...
