WPD[21] / gdn - Monbretia

Monbretia, very colourful but somewhat invasive. Also known as Crocosima or Tritonia
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crocosmia
One of several images captured for "World Photography Day" on 19th August 2021. I had very cloudy and dull weather, with the trip out I had intended postponed for several days as my car was in dry dock.
I chose this image because the relative brightness of the colour and the detail in the primary flower, with a background that didn't seem to be too dominant.

StoneRoad2013 club has replied to ValfalI've got this as a plant in my "wild" garden, which I want to expand into another area as I've previously helped it grow in a woodland setting.
It can be regarded as a weed - my brother has some in what was my father's garden, and regularly applies weed-killer, as he hates it that much ...
What a wonderful thing to have these flowers so pentiful that they are considered a weed. We grow them here, but I don't find that they spread like a weed in our area. They do, however, grow without me taking care of them. *smile*
I find that sometimes "cloudy and dull weather" can bring some nice surprises like the bright color of the flowers here. They seem to stand out despite the lighting.
I hope your car is back in service and you can take the previously intended outing.
Did you enjoy the idea of the group?
StoneRoad2013 club has replied to raingirl clubThere is a deep red cultivar that I am trying to get as a change, once I have established some in another area. One of the reasons why I like Monbretia is that it out-grows attempts by the wild rabbit population to eat it, which usually destroys pretty plants in bad years.
I am sometimes surprised by how clever my little camera can be with non-sunny weather. I have to be careful not to over-expose images in otherwise good conditions.
Car is fixed, it was more a service (oil & filter change) than a real problem. I had one of those a few weeks back when I had to have the rear axle changed due to excessive wear on some parts. Luckily, since my car is an older model, there is a supply of "service exchange" axles. Should be good for a few more miles now.
As for the idea for the group - brilliant !
Very enjoyable. Let's do it again.
I must come and comment on the group.
Interestingly, another organisation had a different theme - they chose posting "favourite photo of their railway " rather than just one image taken on the day. At least partially because Covid was stopping many people from visiting them. It seemed to be working ...
raingirl club has replied to StoneRoad2013 clubSo happy you liked the club event. It's been a lot of work, but happy work for me. We had considered it last year, set up the group in prep, and then didn't consider it again until I just decided to go for it. Amazingly so many joined in such a short amount of notice.
There are lots of ways one can handle a celebration of the day. I personally like this one, but we can discuss different options in the discussions of the group.
StoneRoad2013 club has replied to Peter Castell clubMy monbretia are a welcome splash of colour at the moment.
For control, I either mow over them, or pull them up and transplant.
I hardly ever use weed-killer or pesticides. In fact, apart from treating a couple of persistent tap roots in the drive and on a gravel path about three years ago, I haven't used any for two decades or more.
.........wünsche noch einen schönen Tag,ganz liebe Grüße Güni:))
StoneRoad2013 club has replied to Günter Klaus clubThey are definitely a strong colour and brighten up even a dull day.
