I've often wondered why they RSPB chose an avocet to be its mascot bird.

At one time Jenny the avocet was near to extinction in this country and it was a red letter day to see one. They are one of the conservation success stories and there are plenty to see where I live. I think its because of the return of the avocet, the rspb chose the bird to represent them.
