vista dal quartiere Schipfe lungo il Limmat The Limmat is a river in Switzerland. The river commences at the outfall of Lake Zurich, in the centre of the city of Zurich. From Zurich it flows in a north-westerly direction, after 35 km reaching the river Aare. Historically, the Limmat was an important navigation route. In the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, voyages from Zurich to Koblenz are recorded. In 1447, the Emperor Frederick III granted the privilege of free navigation on the Limmat and on the Rhine to Zurich. Because of the current, navigation was typically downstream only, with the barges being sold on arrival. Today, the Limmat is navigable for much of its length by small craft only, with many of the hydroelectric power plants incorporating boat lifts. The traditional boat type used on the river is the weidling, a flat-bottomed vessel that is usually 10 metres (33 ft) long. The uppermost stretch of the river through the centre of Zurich is navigable by rather larger vessels, albeit limited by low bridges. Zurigo la chiesa di Fraumünster

23 Apr 2012 13 12 1313
The Fraumünster Church in Zurich is built on the remains of a former abbey for aristocratical women which was founded in 853 by Louis the German for his daughter Hildegard. The abbey was dissolved on 30 November 1524 in the course of the reformation and the monastery buildings were destroyed in 1898. Today, the church belongs to the Swiss Reformed Church and is one of the three main churches of Zürich, the other's being the Grossmünster and St. Peter's church. Very beautiful the new stained glass windows in the choir by Marc Chagall. (it's forbidden to take photos in the church, they sell their images so I put here a post card as an example) Do not use any of my images on websites, blogs or other media without my explicit written permission. Medioevo a Santa Pau

SANTA PAU - Garrotxa - Catalonia - Spain An interesting historic site which is built around a square based castle constructed between the 13th and 14th centuries, and the main square, with porticoes and an irregular layout, and with arches of different sizes and with a decidedly medieval personality. Parco Ribalta - Castellón de la Plana

19 Mar 2012 14 13 1380

this beautiful structure is in the romantic park Ribalta, the oldest public park in the city; it preserves an extensive variety of plant species. Located in front of the railway station, the park is representative of 19th-century tastes. A number of walkways intersect each other, forming little squares where the Music Pavilion, the Pérgola, the pond and an old locomotive called the Panderola are located, making the park a delightful place for people of all ages. autumn
