Ashton-under-Lyne Tameside Greater Manchester 28th June 2020
The forecourt of the ex-Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Ashton-under-Lyne Charlestown railway station on the Miles Platting to Stalybridge branch. Opened by the Ashton, Stalybridge & Liverpool Junction Railway (AS&LJR) in 1846 it forms part of the trans-pennine route over Standedge to Huddersfield.

HWW to everyone!

The newish brickwork made me curious I found an old photo there was glass canopy over the entrance with the name being Ashton Charlestown Station. I watched a couple of YouTube videos about slip carriages that would be good for you to recreate although I doubt if H&S would let you have any passengers

Yes, it was never a very impressive station but the entrance was certainly more impressive than this. A slip carriage these days would be seen as a train split in motion and treated as a major incident...!

A familiar scene Peter. Been a bit since I walked through to the platforms here. -All a shodow of its former self!

Cheers. Herb
