First of all, Happy Thanksgiving!

Secondly, I'm sure everyone here who posts ephemera and relics of the past wrestles with themselves over what I hesitate to call "political correctness." To be fair, I will instead term it "good taste," since that former term sometimes implies a measure of ridiculousness about it. We are all compelled to be moderators and custodians of good taste when cultivating images to share, and this one I feel torn over.

Of course, I will tell you it's hard to find comics with a Thanksgiving theme! The style of illustration here, the vibrant colors, that fantastic logo, and more all conspire to make this a striking and whimsical comic cover. On the other hand, the less-than-flattering treatment the Native American counterparts receive here gives pause about whether I should bother posting something like this.

Ipernity for me is a fun place. I don't get too serious about it. Along those veins, I have no wish to offend. In that regard, I am necessarily a censor of the past. I think one relevant thing to keep in mind is the intent of the artist(s). Was this put forth to be hateful? Or merely comical?

Certainly it's unlikely that the publisher's offices were staffed with overt bigots; instead, it's more likely that the artist was portraying the subjects within the cultural bounds that were consistent with that era, as you can find similar portrayals on everything form vintage cocktail napkins to postcards. To that effect, there was probably no intent to offend, merely amuse.

So, as you can see, it's sometimes a precarious task to stand as an arbiter of pop culture history! ;-)
