Oakwell Brickworks

The Hoffmann Kiln at the disused Oakwell Brickworks, Ilkeston, is a grade II listed structure. This has not afforded it any protection from the depradations of the weather and the local populace, and it is now in a sad and ruinous condition. There have been attempts to have the site zoned for housing development but the use of the claypit as a dump for toxic waste may stop this. In a few years the listed kiln will probably have collapsed altogether.
