'Technically skilled', Steve..? hmm - no if I can do it anyone can - I lack any kind of patience or discipline. Equipment is mostly second-hand eBay - technique consists mostly of disgraceful swearing whilst trying to get an old rusted tripod to stay still - picking up the backpack without having zipped it up properly, thereby spilling lenses out onto the beach - mentally cursing the dog-walkers on the beach until they consent to go away... less a technician at work, more a demonic visitation. I think there may be some skill in deciding which image is actually any good though :)
Sometimes though the camera surprises you - that used to happen a lot more in the days of film, where chemistry could play a role - it can still happen on digital, though it seems rarer, and you have to abuse things and push the limits a bit differently.
