A natural snow catcher

Yesterday morning, 6 November 2014, I made myself go out on a three-hour birding walk with friends. The sun was shining and, though a bit chilly, it was a beautiful day. After meeting in the Weaselhead parking lot, we walked down into Weaselhead, but everywhere was very quiet. One of the highlights was a Belted Kingfisher flying high overhead. We also saw a very, very distant Northern Shrike. Saw a few of the “usual” birds, like Chickadees, Nuthatches and Downy Woodpeckers, but, all in all, it was a very slow morning. Our leader is an excellent birder – the birds just weren’t there, ha. By the time I had deleted the few distant, useless images from my computer, all I was left with was this fungus growing on a tree stump : )
The side trails in the park were a mix of treacherous ice, slush and mud – not good for walking. Temperature this morning is 2°C with forecast snow-rain showers, and 5°C in the afternoon with sun and cloud.
