Kinnikinnick / Bearberry sp.

Kinnikinnick / Bearberry sp.
I think I'm right in saying that there are two (or more?) species of Kinnikinnick in Aberta, one that stays evergreen and the other that turns this gorgeous bright red in the fall. This was the first time I had seen the red one. Haven't been able to find the name for the red one yet, after a very quick look on Google. What a beautiful ground cover this plants makes. Yet another thing that I need the ID for, from my friend. Taken on 29 August 2013 at Bow Lake, Banff National Park, off the Icefields Parkway.

Yes, another name for this is Bearberry ... Alpine Bearberry, Red Bearberry and Common Bearberry appear to be the 3 species ... I believe this one is the "Red" Bearberry (Arctostaphylos rubra) ... LOL ... great find and gorgeous colours!
