Grey Crowned Crane / Balearica regulorum

These are such spectacular birds - I think they deserve a far more spectacular name than "Grey Crowned", lol! Its Conservation Status is Vulnerable because, even though this species is common over most of its range, it does face threats to its habitat due to drainage, overgrazing, and pesticide pollution. This one was indoors and unfortunately I needed to use flash. Taken at the Calgary Zoo on 4th April 2011.
