Carnivorous Common Butterwort

This wildflower is only small, with basal, yellowish green leaves. The sunlight was too bright, but I liked the pattern and texture of the area where the stem joins the flower. The sticky upper surface of the leaves traps insects. The nutrients absorbed from the insect's body are used to supplement the plant's nutritional requirements," (from Plants of Alberta by Royer and Dickinson - a newly published book that I am finding very useful).
