Icebow

After a glimpse on our summer ... a glimpse on the Arctic summer again (not too much of a difference anyway). ;) At about 10 pm we saw this strange phenomenon in the sky at about 81 degrees latitude. I first thought our guide was joking when he said it's a frozen rainbow. It was an icebow indeed. And if I remember this right from a film on the Arctic one doesn't see icebows too often. I am not sure how long I stood there and gazed at it. Long. Very long.

This was the most amazing thing I have ever seen: a frozen rainbow. I first thought they were joking ... but it was a perfect bow allover the sky in this shimmering pastel mother-of-pearl hue. Seen at Latitude 81° North at ten o' clock pm.
