To the Arctic

Well, this picture was taken in July. Ok. Admittedly a little bit farther north. ;) Flickr: Icy Bagend in Austlandet And suddenly there was this ice wall. I wondered why the machines stopped und went on deck. So this his was the reason why. It was breathtaking!

(Actually a glaucous gull - very beautiful birds when they are still in their first-year white plummage).

20 C degrees outside today? Very funny! It was sunny yesterday afternoon so I worked outside barefooted. Fancy a cooling-down? ;) It's so warm here, now, (at least 35 C / on the roof 48 C yesterday) that I enjoyed looking at some older photos again. This is the coastline of Austlandet, Svalbard (Norway) which I visited two years ago.

Yesterday the first part of the Fifth IPCC Report was published. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPCC_Fifth_Assessment_Report It doesn't look too good for these white guys... His life on this island will be tough because he couldn't leave on the ice ... well, there was none. He will have to live on bird's eggs and other small stuff. Further uphill there was a mum with her cub. We, of course, were happy to see them. But they will have the same problem. One can only hope that we will get our act together before it is too late. :-/
