97/365: "What we have to do... is to find a way to celebrate our diversity and debate our differences without fracturing our communities." ~ Hillary Clinton

I'm in San Francisco for a week while I visit my father, and I've decided to try to post one collage each day to share the neat things that I find to photograph. It takes time to do collages so I may not be able to do them every day, but I got one done today so I'm very happy!!
Behind my father's house is a park called Mt. Davidson. It's covered with Eucalyptus trees, and when it's foggy (most of the time), it's a lot like a rain forest up there. The wind blows through the trees, rattling the leaves and causing the branches to make a mournful creaking sound that has always made me feel lonely if I hear it too much. The moist, cool fog smells clean and fresh, and moves slowly through the forest, cloaking the trees in the distance and causing all the leaves to drip with condensation. It would be eerie and frightening to me if I hadn't spent my childhood playing there, and though I used to hate how lonely it seems there with the fog, now that I'm a photographer, it's an amazing place to be!
The mountain is covered with trails that circle their way up to the top, and there you will find a most magnificent sight! Tucked into the rear of the highest point of Mt. Davidson, circled by forest on three sides, stands a cross, 103 feet tall. It has been source of great debate through the years with those raging about the religious aspects of this cross vs. the fact that it's a historical landmark. This is the 4th cross erected here, the past ones being burned or destroyed, and today, the cross itself is owned privately to end the constant battling. To me, this cross has always been a favorite San Francisco landmark, and along with the Golden Gate Bridge, they are what I think of when "the city by the bay" comes to mind. If you would like to know more about this magnificent cross, Wiki has a very nice page here: Wikipedia: Mount Davidson
One of the things I've always loved about Mt. Davidson are all the flowers that grow there! I have only posted a small number of the pictures I took of the species that I found, and I may go up there again on another day for a different collage! It's been fun using this little camera and I've started to remember how to get around its problems. :)
Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton (born October 26, 1947) is an American politician who was the 67th United States Secretary of State from 2009 to 2013, serving under President Barack Obama. She was previously a United States Senator for New York from 2001 to 2009. As the wife of President Bill Clinton, she was also the First Lady of the United States from 1993 to 2001. In the 2008 election, Clinton was a leading candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination. Wikipedia: Hillary Clinton
