Tumbleweeds

Tumbleweeds
A.k.a. Russian thistle. It's ironic that this obnoxious stickery invader weed has become an icon of the American west! Thank the Sons of the Pioneers...

Thanks for the history (and the comments on both types of invaders). I'd read recently that tumbleweed wasn't native, but hadn't known its source.

My MIL, who grew up in rural Kansas, always called it "Russian thistle," so there must've been some folk memory that it wasn't native.

It's not unusual--but as per the comment above, it's not usually considered very photogenic! ;)

You learn so much on ipernity! It looks a bit like our (native) saltbush.

Hmm, come to think of it, are humans invasives also?

And then there's those 'foreign plants' that became universal, like corn, rice, potatoes;
