Lupine

Lupine
Lupinus spp., probably Lupinus nevadensis. In Washoe Lake State Park, a couple of miles from my house. Lupine is toxic to livestock, due to its alkaloid content, and rangeland degradation can occur as the lupine takes over due to overgrazing. Per Wikipedia, anyway, lupine species have been used as food in both the Old and New Worlds, but the seeds have to be soaked to remove the alkaloids.
