It's a very late sugaring (maple syrup) season, here in Vermont - but I hear that the quality of the "fancy" grade maple syrup is unbelievably good this year.
So, perhaps at least some of this brutal winter paid off!
This photo shows the sap buckets stacked around a small fire - one of the buckets is still attached to the nearby maple tree. The sugar house, or sugar shack, is boiling down the sap to make syrup - you can see the steam coming through the vent. This family would have had many other sap buckets - generally several to a tree - throughout their "sugarbush" land.
