"The Good Master" #1

Written by Kate Seredy, a Hungarian immigrant to the States , this book was written in the 1930s and won many awards. Did any of you read it?
Seredy's father wrote about this area, (the plains of Hungary) recording the customs - and much of what she writes about are things she remembered from being with him there.
Apart from one chapter which reviles gypsies with every cliche you can name, it's a great book.
I remember my mother loving this one, too.
It takes place on the Hungarian plains in the years before WW1. There was also a sequel called "The Singing Tree," which I read, but don't remember well.
