Wondered why it looked much like a DC-3, per one site it's a modernized version of a DC-3. I'm surprised to see they haven't been completely recycled.

Yup, they were originally called Super DC-3 or DC-3S.
There were several in this yard being scrapped, but some were being used as art projects.
