Not Exactly "Panning" Out...

Not Exactly "Panning" Out...
We finally got a break in the weather today, so I sweet talked my dear husband into helping me out for this shot. As you can see, I only barely accomplish the objective. And this is after hubby tried to help me with the settings (he's the the more technically adept).

Yay Val, you did it!! Great job and your bug is so cute. (Yep, my husband is like that too. If it's about his car he is "in.")

I had wanted to see a VW Beetle for the Challenge... Lucky you!

The shutter speed 1/200 is just too short to get plenty enough motion blur on the background. But I say there's still enough for the challenge.

Thanks so much, Sami. I plan on practicing this technique until I perfect it; of course I wish this picture had fulfilled the requirement just a little better, lol! :-)

Actually, your picture looks very much like those so called "tilt and shift images", that looks like some tiny model photographed with a macro lens.

I also need to practice that panning.

Great photo Valerie! Love it! I think it's a little easier to do the faster your subject is moving.

Thanks norm, yes, I agree, it's easier to get that blur when the subject is moving faster. :-)

I've done most of my panning shots trying to catch side views of race cars on the track, but occasionally, I've done people.

That's a cool shot, Norm :-) I would think it'd be a lot harder to take an action photo of a person using the panning technique

It's really not any different other than you are often trying to shoot around other people. The big problem with the pole vaulting shot was that it was at night and I had to use a slower shutter speed than I really wanted to use.

This is brilliant - love the car and it's really well focused. The background is suitably blurred. Great
