Not To Be Discounted - 24 February 2019

One of my many areas of concern is vacant and neglected commercial property. Such buildings scar the streets of our towns and cities and make their surroundings less attractive for businesses extant. High Street, Lee on Solent is fairly vibrant compared to some nearby towns but it is not without its shame. There is quite a turnover of occupancy and business types perhaps because of rent or lease changes. These are fairly evenly divided between the east and west sections of the street either side of Manor Way and Pier Street.

141-143 High Street formerly accommodated a dry cleaners and a launderette. It has been vacant for several years and has fallen into a state of increasing decay, attracting pigeons and fly-posters. There was a brief period when it appeared to have been let or sold but nothing transpired and, as I recall, the agents have changed.
