An Empty Home - 21 October 2014

An Empty Home - 21 October 2014
Of all the creatures in Ripley's Aquarium of Canada, Toronto, I was most enchanted by the Horseshoe Crabs. Essentially unevolved in 450m years, they are absolutely remarkable. To grow larger, they must moult their exoskeleton and this is what has happened here in a photograph assisted by mine of information Sarah. The former occupant of this 'home' is shown in the next picture, resting away from the other crabs, while the new exoskeleton hardens.
