It's shocking how much crap there is on the beach compared with 40 years ago. Unless you were on a tourist beach, you just never saw anything but glass and driftwood.

So true. Today is so different. Still, it could've been worse -- finding hypodermic needles that used to wash up in the late '80s.

In fact the west coast of the US is still getting things from Japan's tsunami. So sad! My grandchildren and I were walking along a river shore recently and we were shocked to see hundreds of plastic shotgun shell casings. They were from duck hunters farther upstream. And that was only a small bit of shore. We picked up about 50.
