Sonny Stitt

Photographed in NYC in 1953 by Herman Leonard. No one had a harder time dealing with Charlie Parker's legacy than this superb musician, whose sound and ideas on alto sax sounded so much like Bird's that he switched to tenor in order to be seen and heard as his own man.
