Ah! Spätburgunder! I had some very poor quality ones on the 1990s and some really excellent ones in the past 10 years or so. Now one of the world's great wines, in the right hands!

I agree - the first wine from the Ahr valley we had was fairly pale in colour and taste. Years later, a colleague introduced me to a wine maker whose products were much more convincing.
