You wondered about the kind of bird in my pictures--they are called Steller's Jays, which are in a completely different family than the lovely red cardinal. In fact, jays are in the same family as crows and ravens and can mimic other sounds around them. They learn to mimic the sound of hawks to scare other birds away from bird feeders so they can have them to themselves! :D These birds can be very obnoxious and extremely loud, just like crows and ravens. Other blue species include Scrub Jays and Blue Jays but there is a green and brown species too: www.birds-of-north-america.net/jays.html
