Mela Gila Spirit Bear

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kermode_bear
... Spirit Bears in the City -- this one is at the ferry terminal at Tsawwassen. A 2006 fundraising venture of the B.C. Lions Society for Children with Disabilities, hundreds of these stylized fiberglass replicas of the rare white Kermode Bear, also called Spirit Bear, were customized in different motifs and paint schemes by many different artists, and scattered around Vancouver and vicinity ... then auctioned off to benefit charity.
Other cities have done that too: Animals on display are not a new idea in cities throughout the United States and the world. Zurich, Switzerland was the first to do a public art project with Pigs on Parade in 1998. Artists set up Cows on Parade in Chicago in 1999 and New York City in 2000. Seattle also sponsored Pigs on Parade, and Buffalo, N.Y. hosted Herd About Buffalo; Washington DC did Party Animals (Donkeys and Elephants) in 2002.

The horses were auctioned off for a benefit and when touring the countyside, one can see these horses on breeding farms.
Where we lived, our city was known for swans ... the company where I worked at that time, sponsored one that was covered in mirrors ... with the bottom grout blue .. as if still in the lake waters.
When auctioned, profits went to the Children's Museum .. Exploration VI ..
Thanks for the memories !
This was the Swan outside our offices -- her name was 'Swansation'

L. L. Wall club has replied to Peggy C cluba "Swansation" posting in 2009; how old is Ipernity anyway? I had just started uploading shots on Panoramio in 2010, and it has since been blasted into nothingness by Google years ago.
