When we were on Skokholm, we were told that wherever we could see Bracken (and there was a lot), would have been a wooded area in Neolithic times. I wonder if it's same in Cornwall?

Exactly so, Keith - and more specifically, where the wood had been cleared by chopping followed by burning the scrub left behind. Cornwall was a heavily wooded land, with the linden (or lime) tree predominating. I can't quote my source as all my Cornish history books are in Cornwall and I'm not!
