A poor hobbled horse. Not easy to see but there is a chain between the two front legs.
The Spanish often just don't get why others see them as cruel towards animals. They get indignant even ... and then you see sights such as this; and of course there is bullfighting.

We are all agreed here! I know there are animal charities in Spain that would act if they knew about this sort of thing but they are few and far between and the abuses, while diminishing, are still many, sadly.

The owner was ahead and a more disagreeable looking character you couldn't hope to see. I cautiously waited till he'd passed by before taking the shot!
I did capture the exact moment my girlfriend saw the chain and you can see her almost freezing in sudden horror!

So sad to see Andy! My friend has a beautiful dog that was rescued in Spain. We do seem to have a different attitude towards animals...am am pleased to say! Your girlfriend sounds like she is of a similar mind to you on the subject.

Yes, indeed. I have known Spain, urban and rural, since 1981 and have to say that you are right. Not everyone of course (and you you get horror stories in the UK too) but too many. My girlfriend hates mindless cruelty of any sort.

We shudder when we see such cruelty but I guess for people there it's just the way it always used to be done and they don't even think about it. It will take another generation or so until the practice will end, just like bullfighting will eventually...
