This won't be everyone's cup of tea. I posted it on Pano and it got more or less zero response. Already an improvement here!

Ulrich,
John,
Very many thanks!
You might try some noise reduction to fix the (colour) "noise" in the dark parts but as far as I can remember Picasa doesn't have that option.
I might try it again from the original and simply lessen intensity of the bold and the saturation and see if that reduces the noise without dulling the effect I want to achieve.
You're right about Pano!
I used to get stick for my lack of sophistication. There were a handful of well-meaning and very good photographers who spent a lot of time 'advising' the less talented among us. In the main the tips were well-considered, even if rather didactic, as though anyone who became a member automatically wanted to devote a lifetime of study to the subject! It sounds churlish to complain especially as these elderly, retired, mainly northern Englishmen (always men), gave up a lot of their time in the furtherance of our education! It is just that it became overwhelming and very condescending, as if there were only one way (their way) of doing things!
The atmosphere is much less patronising on ip!!!
I've never said this before and none of the people to whom I refer are on ip, unless under a pseudonym (!), and enough water has passed under the bridge, I think. I did upset one of them when I made a flippant remark to a particularly obscure technical point (I reminded him, after a very lengthy essay from him, that all I had was a Nokia N95 camera phone!) and I was 'advised' by his friend that he had been extremely angry!
Now I think: 'too bad'! :o))
Sorry to bore you!
Have a good Easter!!
Best wishes,
Andy
