Sloes on granite!


They seem to like the acidic soil and the salty air here on the clifftops near Zennor!
They were also ripe a full 6 weeks earlier than in the hedgerows of inland Cornwall. They went into my Mum's sloe gin of course, having waited a while in the freezer (and none the worse for that) for their inland cousins to join them!.

Bei Ausgrabungen frühzeitlicher Siedlungen fanden sich getrocknete Schlehenfrüchte und Kerne und auch Ötzi trug Schlehen bei sich.
Heutige Zwetschgen, Mirabellen und Pflaumen sind Züchtungen aus dem ursprünglichen Schlehdorn.
