True, but on exhumation, only about 4 or 5 that are publishable! My best ones of the Cuillin Ridge are the ones that were totally zonked.

Lovely to meet your mother and sister. Too bad about the slides.
By the way, I too found some old slides from Lebanon (where I'm originally from). Some of them, taken in 1975-76, show the destruction in Beirut . They show how horrific war is. I don't even remember actually walking downtown and taking those pictures.

They must be very far removed from your current photographic work! Would still be intereresting to see. Are they publishable?

Andy, yes, far, far removed. I recently bought a slide duplicator that I adapted to my camera, and duplicated them into digital form with a view to posting some here. But after I saw them I cannot describe the emotion they evoked. Memories of living with the nightly shelling and fear of being abducted or killed came back, although I still don't remember actually shooting those pictures. I don't know if it would be appropriate to post them here. Maybe, if there is a group dedicated to the unfortunate effects of war; I'll check. Many thanks..

I doubt there will be such a group (I wish there were!).
The majority of folk use sites such as ipernity as pure escapism from daily tedium or as escape from the horrors they see on the news.To be interested in the horrors that occur in too many places is one thing; to activate against ... well that requires a strength of character and purpose that is beyond most of us.

It's a treasure! I love finding old pic too.

Hi Valerie, This is a reply to a comment by Paul (autofantasia) who was worried about his own historic slides:

I fear it may have been partly my fault and partly poor circumstances surrounding storage, rather than any intrinsic issues with the slides themselves.
I seem to have left them in their plastic boxes but the lids had come half off, exposing them to the elements. Cornwall is a notoriously damp part of the world and I only spent about 2 weeks, every 2 years in my room and then in summer. So it was never heated in the winter. My room was (is) situated under the roof - a converted attic. It is also a 'flying freehold' which means it extends over the neighbouring property. They had a coal fire until very recently and the smoke used to escape straight into my bedroom in winter. It seems that the damp + smoke particles attached themselves to the slides and ate into them, accounting for the blotches and speckles on many of them and much worse on others. A few escaped relatively unharmed.
That's my best guess!
So, unless you have these adverse conditions or similar, I bet your slides are quite safe!!

Hi Roger, Nice image from a time when things were more relaxed than now I'd say.. I too have many slides from in the 1970' , all degraded to some extent as well. Picked out a few memorable ones and managed to restore them with Photoshop.
