'Maison du Roi' refers to the titles of the owner of the building, the Duke of Brabant. In the 16th century, this was Charles V, “King” of Spain.

La 'Maison du Roi' était à l'origine la halle au pain, nom qu'elle a conservé en néerlandais (Broodhuis)

Depuis la fin du 19ème siècle, cet édifice néo-gothique est un musée consacré particulièrement à l'histoire de la ville de Bruxelles.
