Edvard Munch (born December 12, 1863 in Løten, died January 23, 1944 in Aker) was a Norwegian painter, graphic designer, early representative of expressionism. He is a internationally renowned Norwegian visual artist.
His best-known composition, The Scream (1893), is part of a series The Frieze of Life, in which Munch explored the themes of love, fear, death, melancholia and anxiety.

Von Munch konnten wir 2008 eine Sonderausstellung in einem Museum des Künstlers Olaf Gulbranson in Tegernsee bewundern. Die Verbindung
zwischen Olaf Gulbransson und dem 10
Jahre älteren Edvard Munch reicht zurück
bis ins ausgehende 19. Jahrhundert. Beide
lernten sich bereits in Norwegen kennen.
Ihre Wege kreuzten sich mehrmals. Im Nachlass von Olaf Gulbransson befinden sich
einige markante Karikaturen von Edvard
Munch sowie der Briefwechsel zwischen
den beiden Künstlern.
