Iron Bridge
The Iron Bridge was built in 1781 at the dawn of the Industrial Revolution. It was designed by Thomas Prtichard and built by Abraham Darby III. It is made of cast iron, is 100 feet long and spans the River Severn at the heart of Ironbridge Gorge in the town of Ironbridge. We visited there as part of tour arranged by the conference we were attending.

Lightspout Waterfall
This small waterfall is one of the highlights of Carding Mill Valley in the Shropshire Hills near Church Stretton. We hiked in the area after visiting the city of Shrewsbury and going on to a conference that began later in the day.
Carding Mill Valley
When we were in England last summer for a conference we arrived almost a whole day early and after visiting the city of Shrewsbury, went on to hike in the Shropshire Hills. We hiked in Carding Mill Valley and had a pleasant day there, though a lot of people were out.
Shrewsbury Abbey
This is Shrewsbury Abbey, which we visited while in England for a conference. We had a day to ourselves and spent the day in Shrewsbury and the Shropshire Hills.
Tomb of Sir Arthur Onslow
Taken inside Shrewsbury Abbey, this is the tomb of Sir Arthur Onslow, Speaker of the House of Commons during the reign of Queen Anne.
River Severn in Shrewsbury
Before traveling to Normandy we were in England for a week for a conference. The conference was in Shropshire and we spent a day before the conference in Shrewsbury and in the Shropshire Hills. I had long wanted to visit Shropshire to see the abbey and the castle after reading the Cadfael Chronicless of Ellis Peters, set in Shrewsbury in the 12th century during the Anarchy and featuring a monk at the abbey, Brother Cadfael. This photo was taken from the castle walls, from Laura's Tower, and overlooks part of the town of Shrewsbury and the River Severn.
Shrewsbury Castle Gates
Before going to France we were in England for a week for a conference in Shropshire. We had a day before the conference and spent it in Shrewbury and in the Shropshire Hills. This photo was taken at the Castle Gates in Shrewsbury.
Sunset at La Pertuiser
This is the last photo I'll be posting from our trip to Normandy, this from the Sorcerer's Cave at Pointe de la Courtine looking east at sunset toward La Pertuiser and beyond to the arch and needle of La Manneporte.
