Grotto Geyser, Yellowstone National Park

We are in Edmonton helping our daughter and her family and new baby, so my internet time has been sporadic and often interrupted. My apologies to those whose kind and timely comments have not yet been returned.
This is Grotto Geyser in Yellowstone's Upper Geyser Basin. It erupts about every eight hours to a height of ten feet. There are stories of people climbing through the holes in the geyser cone and nearly being roasted alive.

aNNa schramm club has addedThe Grotto Geyser is a fountain-like geyser. Its eruptions take place about every 8 hours and can last from 90 minutes to more than 10 hours. There have been eruptions that lasted more than 24 hours. Although the water ejected only reaches a height of up to 10 m, a large amount of water is ejected. (WiKi)

He is so fantastic with the sediments. And thanks for the serie
I did snort in amusement to read the comment about idiots burning their tooshies because they thought it was a bright idea to climb around the area. *shakes head* Part of me wishes the geyser had been successful, and successful enough that the remains weren't recoverable and so left a lasting reminder for all of the morons and disrespectful jerks out there that perhaps they should stay away from these things. OMG. It's boggling. I know, I'm horrible...but I can't help it! :D
Can't stop looking at these pictures, what a COOL geyser!! Love the color and shape so much! Wonderful pictures to show how it looks from different angles. :)
I see you stopped by for a visit, thank you!! :) I'm not surprised you loved the little ferry so much, it was fun to ride in too!
Yeah, the low price to the island with a bike is mentioned often so it was a no-brainer. You two would love this place too of course. What a fantastic place it was to visit and I'd love the chance to go again some day. Mackinac Island is one I've heard of and it's too bad it's overrun with tourists. Too many people ruin everything, though I guess there are plenty of people who don't mind being surrounded by herds of human bovines. I'll be sure to not see that place if/when we get to Michigan. Reminds me of a very low point when we were in France and made a stop at St. Tropez. Just Don't Do It. One horrifically busy road in, the same one out. The place is SWARMING with pretentious, snotty, elitist morons, the shops are so Special and shmancy and we were disgusted by the airs exuding from staff. Steve insisted on getting coffee there though I knew it was a really bad idea. Seriously...tasted like burned tires for $10 a piece. We threw them out. One of our worst days to top it off...*sigh*...*cringe*...
Good for Nancy to get out in the snow...I'll bet she's with the kitlings? It's tough going in that weather and I do understand you being resistant though it would be good for you...I am trying to get Steve to do some laps up and down the driveway, some cardio-vascular exercise is important for all of us. I'd turned into a slob after we got back from Vancouver Island and finally got myself into my routine again...what a surprise to find how much better I felt with some daily exercise. It's just 30 minutes but it's night and day! :) Go out and throw a snowball at Nancy and see what happens... :D Anyway, you'll be happy at how quickly you get your wind back after a couple of days. :)
I loved the end of your first attempt to type to me....I'll be back to finish this. Kids climbing all over me. LOL, great picture to grin at!
Speaking of which, I actually need to stop what I'm doing and have dinner with Steve! :) BBIAB! (be back in a bit, if you don't know that one! :D)
Back after polishing off the creamy tomato soup we made last week, along with a cheesy biscuit! NOM!
In-laws of Roses? Hopefully everyone gets along ok! :) I do understand being unsociable...I am horribly shy around strangers and I tire quickly of boring conversation, and if people start delving into politics or sports, I'm Out Of There.
Nice of Nancy to take the baby in for the night, so very wonderful for Rose to get some much-needed rest. I know that parents get so little sleep in the first year+ of a baby's life. Ugh! Nancy knows that drill though, what a kindness to let Rose rest. And you, too, slept like a baby the whole time! WOOT! She cast a spell on the two of you, totally adorable.
Photo-wise, it's almost always me who takes more picture when it's macro. If I am using my Sony for regular shots, or my phone, then we do as you guys do along the trail these days. There isn't a problem unless I would like to do macro. Our styles are very different. Steve is much more technical and spends a lot more time per subject, taking many more pictures. I take multiple pictures of each subject but usually only about three apertures per before moving on. However, I move much slower and I spend more time whenever there's a mushroom or something small that needs a bit of scene cleanup. I feel very self-conscious about the time I take on my pictures and never feel truly relaxed, which affects my enjoyment and makes it impossible to be In The Moment. Thus--I need to be by myself.
Funny about the change in Nancy's camera choices...exactly the same as Steve. These days, Steve almost exclusively uses his phone. I now use my phone much more than I used to, but I also like to use my Sony, and the Canon is really reserved for macro in my eyes, though we've got a wonderful walk-around lens (28-104 I think) that takes fabulous pictures. We have a host of other fine lenses too including a wide angle, 100-400, as well as a 50. My problem is that I cannot stand changing lenses. I'm lazy! And between the phone and the Sony with its wonderful zoom capabilities, I just don't want to be bothered. As we've both learned, phones take really great pictures these days and I'm not trying to get published so what's the difference, right? If a hotshot photographer wants to put their nose in the air regarding some of my less-stellar shots, no worries by me! :D I can take great, print-worthy pictures if that's what I'm out there to do, but my travel pictures look just fine and that's all I'm aiming for!
Dysfunction and looking at your own behavior...yeah, one of the things I learned and pay close attention to is this one: if I don't like a behavior another person is exhibiting, I stop for a moment and think about myself. Do I do the same thing and I'm not proud of it? I have seen many times looking back, that I've become very angry about a behavior only to realize that I'm really just angry because I'm seeing this behavior and I'm ashamed that I do it too. It does help me quite a lot to stop the behavior myself and to give the other person a break...after all, I can't very well bark about something that I am doing myself.
Wow, the mornings sound very crazy with the kids and hullabaloo! Exhausting I'm sure...I get overwhelmed by too much noise and chaos. Actually, that's one of the things I realized was so horrible about the game I was playing. So much chaos and frenetic activity is built into most games, and that one is also full of it...it would take ages to wind down after some of the activities I'd do. Lots of built-in stress and pressure. The difference from just two days away from that game is amazing...so peaceful and calm! :)
HEY GUESS WHAT?! Steve is READING!! SERIOUSLY I KID YOU NOT!! What you may not know is that he's never been a bookworm like you and I. He's only read a handful of books that he wasn't required to read. He just always had something better to do. Well, since I took up reading again last spring or so, he's tried to read but just cannot get into it. I am not having the best track record but managed to work my way through a handful of Anne of Green Gables books (until they felt a little meh and same-old), and some real-life adventures too. Once we got back from Canada I lost my way as you know. But I finally tried to get back into it...and at the same time I began collecting ebooks. Piles of them. Read some and told Steve and his interest started getting piqued. Finally, when I put a veritable library of titles on his laptop, he decided he'd like to try.
But his laptop is this stupid combo tablet thing called a Windows Surface Pro. It's horrible. At the time he was aiming for a tablet that had computer-like abilities but in the end it's junk. All the while I've never ever shut up about how much I adore my Samsung tablet and he couldn't deny how clean the text is and what a nice unit it is. Well, yesterday he went to Costco and they had a $50-off sale on a really nice one that wasn't too expensive. He texted me to ask if it would be ok to get it and I was like, "GET IT!! You'll be encouraged to read!" And you know what?! He came home, put a book on there and has been reading more now than in all the years we've been together!! :D
BTW it was really cute hearing that one of the twins said "I am your sunshine; you are my sunshine." How very dear. :) They may be a lot of work and absolute monsters at times but they are priceless dears nonetheless and aren't you the lucky one to be their gramps!
Thanks too, for your PS about my panos...glad you enjoyed them so much. I really like the one of Steve too. Something really cool about seeing the action from behind him. Love that.
Finally, I wanted to tell you how tickled I am about the progress of our rocks!! I mentioned this in my latest presentation but I just have to mention again to you. Picking up those stones that are now in Pre-Polish...they feel so silky--almost creamy or velvety--in your hands with their soft luster glowing back at you. And the colors and patterns, they are just magnificent. Our first batch was grand, but these are on a whole different level. The other rocks which I will put into Step 2...they're remarkable as well and make me feel so excited! The thing is, every one is special and so cool. Steve and I are awed by the transformation from very cool, but rough rocks, into these stone gems. What a marvel. Can't wait for the next batch to finish so I can show them off! :)
Ok I'm out! OMG...I wrote an entire book. *shameface*...lol
A fantastic series, Ron!
