Elk

This photo was taken in the town of Mammoth at the north entrance to Yellowstone National Park where elk can often be found wandering around the town. The young bulls were practice sparring outside one of the park buildings. The photo was taken by my wife with her phone.

Once,in a Northern Country, they told me I should be very much aware of the wild ones near the roads because their height made them exceedingly dangerous to car drivers.
If they cross the road in front of you and you hit them they have the height necessary to smash the car roof and decapitate the driver, reindeer are normally only bonnet affairs...

And the mountains behind are splendid !
TY for the long comment on my Cooper's Hawk picture...you know, it's just so funny...a photo op comes your way and you take it, not knowing exactly how special it is at the time. We haven't been filling the bird feeders so the hawks haven't been around. That Cooper's Hawk frequented the feeders regularly when they were attracting masses of birds. I'm just glad I got such a nice picture. Now the confounded Red-Headed Woodpeckers which find homes in the hollowed trees on the hill...they will NOT be photographed! So HUGE and gorgeous, but who knows if I'll ever get a picture of one! They're so awesome!
Not sure if you're home yet but I'm glad you had a nice visit with the kids. Too bad for the uncooperative weather...I'm afraid you may be holed up at home too, from what you've been telling me. Ah well, hopefully there will be a break in the weather and you can head out for a proper stroll!
How comforting it has to be, now that you have your van properly replaced. Hopefully it will get you guys to wherever you want to go over the next many years! :)
You and Steve both want to head out! I'm all for it but we have stuff to do first. OMG...Steve built the bed frame!!! AHHHHHH!!! IT'S SO COOL!!!! *dances* The mattress fits exactly into the frame, he even built a lip to keep the mattress from sliding. It's just exactly right. The only thing left to do is build the 3 drawers underneath but he's got shelves to put into the cabinets in my bedroom first. It's all coming together, we're so happy!
Glad you enjoyed the Sandhill Crane video. It was short and full of content, what a perfect clip to add to your lovely photography. Looking forward to seeing your other pictures! :)
Wow...the kid who thought sandhill cranes were flying monkeys from Wizard of Oz...perhaps he was dropped on his head as a baby? Oh, that was rude! :D
I hope you had a nice time with your pals at lunch! Steve and I just had spicy chicken tostadas with avocado and onions! NOM!!! :D
Ok take care and have a lovely evening! :)
