Tower Falls

Continuing our tour of Yellowstone National Park, after leaving Norris Geyser Basin on the west side of the park where the two loops of the main road meet, we continue east from Norris Junction to Canyon Junction, a twelve mile drive. Canyon Junction is the location of Canyon Village, a campground, and the roads that follow the north and south rims of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. At Canyon Junction the road turns south to Hayden Valley or north to Dunraven Pass. We are going to bypass the canyon for now and head north up the pass, one of the least visited areas of the park, with few geothermal features but wonderful scenery. We are driving the east side of the upper loop of Yellowstone's figure "8" main road.
Dunraven Pass is a wonderful place to see some of Yellowstone's wildflowers in the spring and early summer and I've posed several photos of them in the insets including a photo of some of Yellowstone's native orchids. The main feature of this northeast side of the park is Tower Falls, a 132 foot (40 meter) falls. The last few times we were there the trail to the base of the falls was closed but they can still be seen from further up. The falls are usually busy but the area north and west of the falls less so. Just north of the falls is the northeast entrance to the park (one of five entrances) and at that junction the main road continues to the west and back to Mammoth Hot Springs through an area with few thermal features.

Your insets are also grand. The first inset, in particular, made me exclaim out loud, "OMG...WOW!!" and I just sat and stared. What a lovely sight. Something about that yellow carpet accented by conifers and the angle of the hillside make for an extra lovely view. SO PRETTY!!!
Each of the flower pictures are great...the penstemon (?) is so pretty and the orchid and floral display behind is quite breathtaking! What a show.
I loved the tour you gave us too. BTW I added a link to the Yellowstone map so folks can follow along on your tour! :) It was wonderful to see where you were talking about. Gee, I just can't wait to spend time there!!
Boy what a nice report from you. How awesome that the weather cooperated with you to the point that you guys got to do everything you wanted to (within reason, of course! :D). You've certainly piqued my interest for visiting Michigan! I loved what you had to say, it sounds fantastic. How grand that you got to see the peak of autumn, I can't wait to see pictures.
All of your nibbles and sips along the way at shops and beverage dispensaries sounded equally super. I am sorry that you had to see the accident though, that isn't a memory I would want in my head and hopefully it will fade away...I find that if I want to forget something, the best thing to do is never repeat it, if it comes to mind, dash away from it, and avoid anything that might remind you of it. Helps a lot, but of course, I'm sure you already know this! :)
So happy to hear that you saved the snapping turtle. You sent me off on a Snapping Turtle safari with your link...your nephews are likely to have a gaggle of chickies chasing them, heh... I really loved watching their videos, who would have thought you could swim down and catch a turtle?!!! CRAZY! So then I wanted to know more because these turtles are supposedly very dangerous. Behold, totally crazy dude allows a snapping turtle to bite him! www.youtube.com/watch?v=F57z6ya-rnA
Boy, oh boy...NO THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! But, even though YOU say they're not handsome looking, I can't help but say they're ever so cute! Just keep your distance as they always wake up on the wrong side of the bed and behave as if someone peed in their Wheaties! :D :D :D
I'm hoping that your trip home is a comfortable, safe, and uneventful one (except for the fun stops if you get some!).
Take care!!
Splendid, Ron!
So thanks for the very interesting informations!
