Dryad's Saddle

Dryad's Saddle
I believe (thanks to J. Gafarot) that this is Polyporus squamosus or Dryad's Saddle, a Bracket Fungus. It was photographed in Dowagiac Woods in Michigan and is an example here of guttation, mushrooms and plants producing beads of "sweat". Dowagiac Woods is in southern Michigan and an area where some of the original forest has been preserved.

TOTALLY AWESOME pictures of this mushroom and its "sweat"!

I will have a full comment in just a bit, I wanted to drop off a link to you...heh...remember how I said I remembered the Serviceberry from somewhere? LOLOL...
www.ipernity.com/doc/290645/17707669 (Er...duh? HAHAHHA!!!)

More later my fine friend, and I hope this day will be fabulous for you!

I'm BACK!

Wow...this is a BRACKET FUNGUS? I'm really quite blown away because it looks so much more like a proper mushroom with its thick stem. (looked it up for more pictures and examples...) Wow, I tell you, fungus never fails to amaze. Ok, so now I know that bracket fungus can be stemmed too! Sheesh. There is a reason I sometimes feel like throwing all of my mushroom books out of the window...the stinkers will NOT follow rules or be constrained within hard-lined descriptions!

Heh...but then again...that's how so many, many species of all types are as well. Outliers are always around to chuck curve-balls at us and make us pull all of our hair out trying to identify them!

In regards to RED. *bangs head on desk* What an infuriating color to deal with. But fiddling around in Raw Tools helps a LOT. It would be really helpful if the method that works with one picture works across the board, but that would be too easy! HAHAHAHAH...and you're right. Any color in the red to yellow spectrum can be a challenge to process well. I appreciate your information about it though, it all makes perfect sense, though I find red the worst on a very consistent basis. I will often go to look at my pictures and cringe in horror at the red flowers... "What amateur took this picture with a point-and-shoot? What's that? I took it with my 100mm macro lens? THE HORROR!!! AHHHHHHH!!!" *shakes head* What I hope is that the processing engines/software/algorithms get better at correctly writing data for this color so it's easier to make them true to life without jumping through hoops.

Loved what you had to say about online friends. I am so happy to be included in your circle of good friends, how nice to have the internet to bring like-minded folk together! We both remember what it was like before. Lonely. Now we are surrounded by people we see eye-to-eye with, how cool is that?! :)

LOL to your crazy workload of a day...there is never enough time to do it all! Now, with our travels taking us away, being at home is full of so much to do for prep and taking care of the house and grounds. We're running at full speed much of the day but it's nice to accomplish so much, too!

Also, LOL to your running out of steam and just sitting there. I get it!! There's only so much one can do before the batteries must be recharged, and that goes for running around and for creative energy too. When you're pooped, you just have to sit there! :) No worries!

It's so kind of you to prepare for your friend's visit so that you'll be able to show him some flowers when he comes! So thoughtful. I hope it's a lot of fun for both of you!

Well, I need to get back into running mode. Specifically, I MUST process some of my trip pictures before we go! I've been so busy with other things I haven't been able to get to them, ack! I hope your day is super!! :)

Like Janet, I spontaneously thought of a sweating mushroom. Phenomenal, what nature produces. A splendid series, Ron!

A fine set of fungal images, Ron. I'm fascinated by the "sweating" phenomena, I've never seen that happening with fungi here - I wonder if it's species specific or climate driven?

We have seen it only on Polypores but apparently it does happen with other fungi and also with other plants.
