Tree Swallow

We put up three nest boxes this spring for Bluebirds. We have a pair of House Wrens in one of them, a pair of Tree Swallows in another, and I've been regularly evicting the House Sparrows from the third. This is the male Tree Swallow perched on our back fence. The female is shown in the two insets and lacks the blue coloring of the male.

Have a great day.
It seems a tender creature.
So dear, so sweet, so adorable. Mama in the nest kills me!! Papa is lovely. And boy oh boy are you making me BURN to process the totally awesome shots I got of some males and pairs out at Klamath! I MUST SHARE THEM!! :D I appreciate you reminding me of these pictures...more amazing Sony shots which affirmed why it was such a good purchase! :)
LOL, I love reading about the nesting boxes...omg you are such a MEANIE kicking out the finches! HOW RUDE! :D "HEY! WE'RE WORKING HERE! QUIT TOSSING OUR NEST OUT THE DOOR, CONFOUND YOU BAD, BAD HUMAN!!!" *rolls around giggling as I picture the show*
Thanks for your latest tome on my comments, what fun it is to read about your latest adventures and whatever you're up to! :D
Your compliment on my Jay picture totally made my day!! YAY!! So glad you enjoyed it...what LUCK! Steve saw two in a tree off the trail (he was in front) and even though one flew off, this one was content to sit and preen its fluffy feathers, not worried at all about us being nearby. I may post another from the other side though it may be too noisy. That Sony has totally paid for itself with the wonderful pictures I've been able to capture, hooray! :) It's always nice when you have an idea about something and it turns out to be exactly what you'd hoped for! :)
I'm glad my pictures give you the ants-in-the-pants that your pictures give me! Hey, fair is fair! :D It's just so nice that we are all so able to go on these adventures! Lucky us and yay teams! *high five*
Oooooh, a white pelican!! How awesome is that?! I once worked at a company that was right on the SF Bay (north side near San Rafael) and I'd go on a walk every day along the bay...I caught a white pelican migration at one point and a few days had umpteen THOUSANDS of birds on the water! INCREDIBLE. Makes me wonder if I can find some of those old pictures from so long ago...
Well, I looked through my old folders and though I have a neat little page with fun pictures of my walk there, I guess I never got around to processing the pelican pictures I took then...ah well, no worries, because I still remember them so clearly. Can't wait to have the opportunity again to take pictures of them! :) And for now, I look forward to seeing your peli-pix! :)
Woah, sharp attention to see the swallows in terror and then to find a garter snake hunting for eggs...YIPES! Does make me think about our dear Snakey, I'm going to bet he's probably a solid 4' now, what an intensely gorgeous snake he is...and he's been wolfing down a mouse (small "fuzzy" size) every day now. If we decide to "full-time" in our RV we'll need to re-home him...a few weeks without food is fine because they are used to feast and famine but more than that is not ok. Would be fun to take him along but there's no place for him and I can't imagine he'd be happy any time we were moving. I hope we'll find a home with a breeder, he's in pristine condition, gentle, fully mature. So we'll see...heh, we don't know if Snakey is a male or female, maybe SHE will have zillions of babies down the road! :)
I hope Nancy feels better soon, mouth work can be awful...getting my wisdom teeth out gave me a numb spot on my jaw for about two YEARS...ugh. I don't mind dental work, I just don't like the expense. Steve has terrible teeth and needs some very pricey work done so I know what you mean about prioritizing our coin spending.
Good luck on your orchid hunting! Can't wait to see the photographic spoils! :)
Ugh on the boat motor overhaul, but I hope it doesn't take too much to get it back in order. Yes, rowing IS hard work. That reminds me...when Steve and I went to Rocky Point in Klamath and we went on the canoe trail, Steve severely strained his elbow from all of the paddling and it was incredibly painful to the touch...I've had these injuries too, but not as bad as him. Today, 5 weeks later, his elbow is ALMOST completely better. Wow, right? OW!! Hope you didn't hurt your shoulder cuffs, I don't think I'd be able to row anymore because of old weight-lifting cuff injuries. Boo.
Sounds like the boat outing with the kitlings and the cookout were lots of fun. How nice that you didn't have company other than your own!
As tempted as I am, I'm not going to look up Prairie Smoke or Missouri Iris...I want to see YOUR pictures! :) On our travels we saw walls covered with creamy white irises and on some of our hikes we found countless PURPLE irises which took our breaths away!
Ok, I'm done here! I'll be posting a fence picture later but the insets will show how pretty the poppies and wildflowers look on our property right now...only phone pix but I want to share them!
