Sparrow's Egg Lady's Slipper

Thought I'd post photos of some Lady's Slippers today, flowers that we found and photographed on our 2014 trip through the Canadian Rockies. This one is Franklin's Lady's Slipper or the Sparrow's Egg Lady's Slipper, Cypripedium passerinum. It is fairly common in British Columbia and Alberta but does not grow in Washington. In fact, Montana is the one state other than Alaska in which it grows.

very very beautiful!
All of them are fabulous. I especially love the last inset with the twisting...?sepals? What a knockout. I have not seen very many orchids in the wild, but then again, it's never been a focus. I hope that on our upcoming trips I might get the chance to see some. Time will tell! Until then, I will drool in happiness at your beauties! :)
Your comments about my frost pictures have left me glowing with a dopey smile on my face. :) I'm so glad you liked them so much! :) Isn't it wonderful that we can both take pictures that make us feel successful? We both take plenty of "garbage" pictures that get the old heave-ho but happily we get plenty that reach the level we are hoping for. How cool is that? I remember a time when I wondered if I'd EVER get pictures like the ones I admired. Personally...I'm still waiting for the chance to get some pictures of orchids like these! SOME DAY! And then you'll know I'm bouncing around the room squeeing happily! :)

Of all these fabulous shots, I particularly love the first inset. Never seen one in bright yellow color.
