Ubehebe Crater

Ubehebe Crater
Wherever one goes in Death Valley its volcanic origin is obvious, but here a crater and the results of its eruption can be seen and explored. Ubehebe Crater is on the north end of the park where the paved road ends and it is possible both to walk the rim of the crater and to walk down to the bottom of the crater as is obvious from the figures that can be seen in the photo. The crater is half a mile (one kilometer) wide and 500 to 777 feet (150 to 237 m) deep. The age of the crater is estimated from 2,000 to 7,000 years old.
