Leaves

Leaves
I have no idea what plant this is but the leaves caught my attention as we wandered through the rainforest at Mossman Gorge. The older leaves were green, like everything else but the new leaves were this striking white.

That is a Eucalyptus with an albino sport or localized albinism -- if the mutation happens in an apical bud then the entire growth of that branch will be albino..... It's a fascinating phenomenon in plants -- albinism in plants doesn't always work the same way as in animals. To tell you which Eucalyptus shots of green foliage AND the whole tree would need to be shown. Do note that albino sports like this and albino plants (where the whole plant is white) are very short-lived.

If you can live without positive plant ID -- there are quite a few Eucalyptus varieties in AUS, as you well know -- , just enjoy your neat find & capture ;)
